François-Xavier Zoumenou aka François X is one of those DJ's and producers that takes things slowly while spinning them big.
Before he emerged as an internationally acclaimed DJ, he was already a musical activist on the Parisian scene. In 2011, he co-founded his abstract and techno orientated imprint Dement3d Records alongside his close friend Heartbeat, named after a party series that they both held in their hometown, long before they thought about releasing music.
François dropped his first material as a producer with the sharply tuned house grooves of "Future Roots Vol. 3" in 2009 on DJ Deep's, Deeply Rooted House imprint and years later, further EPs have displayed his talent to transform streamlined club music with subtle, disturbing elements into exciting and abstract journeys.
He has also gone on to release tracks on his own Dement3d imprint, including the experimental techno/ambient album entitled "Irregular Passion", accompanied by three EPs, on which he has collaborated with fellow famed Parisian friends including Antigone. He is also part of Hiss: 1992 - a techno/electronic project that he runs with Swiss talent Hendrik van Boetzelaer aka Opuswerk.
In all of his adventures, you can feel his love for musical genres beyond the straight club music spheres, as his techno mirrors abstract moments that can be linked to labels such as Industrial Records or Warp, as well as genres including minimal-wave and electro.
For the EDWIN Music Channel this month, François has turned things upside down with a mix that takes a step away from his techno-leaning club music and showcases his love for Kosmische slow grooves whilst featuring an illustrious group of artists: from contemporary cold wave illusionists like Toresch to electronic industrial pioneers like US-American composer and producer Craig Leon.
