Talking about Demdike Stare is like catching a shadow.
The musical project that Mancunians, Sean Canty and Miles Whittaker have been running since 2009, play and produce a mix of dub, dark ambient, drone, noise, industrial and other electronic spheres, but there is a lot more to it than that as they take samples from unknown sources, constantly picking up on abstract notes.
You'll find them playing their stirring compositions and grooving patchworks in clubs like Bunker or Berghain, sometimes in old industrial spaces like Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum or in cosy social monuments like Pudel in Hamburg. They have also performed their peerless sounds in Museums and have been frequent guests at festivals such as Sonar, Unsound, Mutek and Dekmantel. But to call Demdike Stare a duo for the masses would be real 'fake news'.
With six albums for Modern Love and countless EP's, as well as working with labels like Honest Jon’s and their very own imprint Distort Decay Sustain, they have proven their outstanding musical style over and over again as unique and incomparable.
For the EDWIN Music Channel this month, Demdike Stare have curated a selection of current and past seasons, bringing together a mix of ambient, hip-hop, noise, romantic longing folk, techno, ethnic jazz and other exotic sounds, all mixed together in their own unique way.
